What are sorority dues?
Sorority dues are a specific amount of money paid by each sorority member during each semester and vary by chapter. New member dues may be higher than dues of an initiated member, but will drop after the first semester in most cases. The majority of chapters provide payment plans for assistance in paying these fees. We encourage you to ask all sorority women about their dues during the recruitment process or refer to the specific chapter facts provided.
Do all women live in sorority houses?
There are no dedicated housing options for sororities or fraternities at Quinnipiac University. All members of Greek life participated in the University housing assignment process like all the other students. Members may choose to live with other people in their organization on or off campus.
is there hazing?
Quinnipiac University holds a zero tolerance policy for hazing. No member is allowed to participate in any form of hazing as a new or initiated member. The hazing policy is located in the Student Handbook, which can be found on the Quinnipiac University website beginning on page 78.
How will I know which organization is right for me?
Each National Panhellenic Council organization has its own mission, creed, and values. However, all organizations strive to provide members with sisterhood, self-growth, scholarship, fun, and development. Pay attention to the specific conversations you have with women in each chapter, who you speak to, and how you values align within theirs. Be yourself and have fun!
Does every PNM receive a bid?
A bid is an invitation to join a sorority. The purpose of the recruitment process is to allow you to decide what chapter is best for you, and for each chapter to decide which members are fit for them. In reality, not every women will receive a bid, however, if a PNM maximizes her options during the recruitment process, a bid is highly likely.
What is the New Member experience like?
Each sorority provides its new members with an educational program (usually 6-8 weeks) designed to help new members learn the values, history of the organizations, and other new members. Programs are fun, educational, and is a great way to get to know the chapter and the women in it!
What is the MRABA?
MRABA stands for Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement. Potential New Members (PNM) are given the options of signing the MRABA at the completion of primary recruitment when ranking chapters they would like to accept a bid from. In order to receive a bid, the MRABA must be signed. By signing this, a PNM agrees to accept a bid from any chapter they have listed. If the PNM receives a bid from a chapter they listed and declines it, they cannot accept another bid for one year, or until the next formal recruitment process. If a PNM does not receive a bid, they have the option of participating in Continuous Open Bidding. Your Rho Gammas will be sure to explain in depth and answer any further questions!
Do I need to be a legacy?
A legacy is a student who has a family member who is a member for a sorority we have on campus. Though this is an option to fill out on the registration form, you do not need to be a legacy by any means. Each chapter has their own policy regarding legacies during recruitment, but it is not required for the formal recruitment process.
What is strict silence?
Strict silence is the period of time during the recruitment process where there is no conversation contact between sorority women and the PNMs. This period begins when the PNM leaves her last recruitment party and ends on bid day night. This includes social media and please inform your Rho Gamma if you experience someone breaking the strict silence period.
