A Letter From the President!
Hi everyone! My name is Grace Van Dale, and I’m a junior in the School of Communications, studying Public Relations with a minor in Marketing.
When I left high school and came to college, joining a sorority was truly never on my radar. I didn’t grow up with sisters, and never had a large group of girl friends that resembled what I thought “sisterhood” was supposed to look like. Because of that, the word felt a little meaningless to me, honestly. On a whim, after arriving at Quinnipiac, I decided to register for primary recruitment—without any real expectations. From the very beginning of the process, however, I felt nothing but reassured and supported. Every question I had was met was answered beyond expectation, and every fear I had subsided.
As my membership continued and I began to find my voice within this community, I grew in ways I never knew were possible. I stepped into leadership by joining the Junior Panhellenic Council, then serving as Director of PR and Marketing for my chapter, later Vice President of Communications, and now President of the Panhellenic Council. Each role challenged me, shaped me, and helped me become more confident in who I am, and my place in this community.
Joining a sorority means so much more than joining a group of girls—it means passion, leadership, opportunity, connection, and dedication. Although I always had a passion for leadership, I struggled to find success in high school, as my mental health often kept me from stepping outside my comfort zone. When I joined my chapter, the doubts I had about myself weren’t met with judgement, they were celebrated. This community lifts you up and shows you a window of everything you’re capable of, while giving you the support you need to get there. That is my favorite part of our Panhellenic community: it allows you to be unapologetically yourself while surrounding you with women who are different, yet deeply alike in kindness and care.
I am constantly in awe of the community I now have the honor of leading and the incredible effort our chapters make to celebrate philanthropy, the beauty of sisterhood, and each woman’s individuality.
I encourage you to consider making sorority life a part of your college experience, as it has become the most meaningful and essential part of mine. Find your own definition of sisterhood—and discover the true depth of what that word can mean.
